If it’s April, it’s got to be RenewX! As the well awaited event moves to Chennai this year, after earlier stints at Hyderabad, one can’t help but wonder how South India has gone about its solar journey. After taking the lead initially in the 2010-2020 decade, especially with wind energy, the region seemed to take a small two- year break to reset ambitions. And now, the country’s most industrialised states are set once again to add green energy like never before.

That energy and ambition, while being key to national goals as well, will also add to India’s growing he as a manufacturing base and one hopes, source for skilled manpower in the long term. Our cover feature this month looks at the contours of the new surge in South India.

We have also gone ahead and brought out a separate storage supplement with this issue, in an acknowledgement of the critical role energy storage is going to play in the times to come, and the separate coverage and focus it deserves. Look ahead to much more along the same lines in the months and years ahead from us. Energy storage, long considered one of those few industries where technologies had barely changed in a century, is suddenly in hyper mode, and where that leaves us in 5 years or so is anyone’s guess really.
