IRENA Report: Renewable Energy Targets in 2022 By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Wed, Nov 9th, 2022 A study titled “Renewable Energy Targets in 2022” has been released by the IRENA (The International Renewable Energy Agency). The renewable energy objectives in NDCs are the main focus of this report’s assessment of the most recent adjustments to climate pledges made before COP27. Recent geopolitical and climate-related developments confirm the urgent need for action to enhance ambition for the deployment of renewable energy to accomplish climate targets, promote energy security and affordability, and assure universal access to reliable and cheap energy. This report aims to assist governments in developing renewable energy targets that can contribute to the accomplishment of these urgent goals. The paper provides a summary of the most recent changes to climate commitments made before COP27, with a focus on the NDCs’ ambitions for renewable energy. After showing the most recent developments in objectives and an analysis of the level of ambition in renewable power targets internationally, the analysis shows the current discrepancy between the renewable targets established in NDCs and those set in national energy plans.
