More than 6.6 GW of new capacity for clean power was installed in the United States during the first quarter, setting a record for the sector. Despite a record first quarter, the industry saw decreasing growth as a result of projects going online, projects beginning the construction phase, and power purchase agreement (PPA) announcements. The sector installed 6,619 megawatts (MW) of utility-scale clean power capacity in the first quarter of 2022, which is enough to power 1.4 million American homes. The record capacity is mostly attributable to advancements in battery storage installation, which have increased by 173 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021, while solar and wind installations have increased by 11 percent and 3 percent, respectively.
