CEA Report Redefines CO2 Baseline For Indian Power Sector

Central Electricity Authority’s (CEA) latest government report on the CO2 Baseline Database for the Indian Power Sector revealed the impact of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodologies on the energy projects and on lowering the carbon intensity of the electricity grid.

This report aims to provide an authentic baseline to measure emissions data and ensure uniformity in the calculations of CO2 emission reductions. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) compiled a report covering the database on CO2 emissions for all the necessary grid-connected power stations in India. The report uses typical standard data for a few stations where information was not available from the station.

The report placed the weighted average emission factor (considering renewable energy generation) of the Indian Grid at 0.716 for 2022-23, and for 2023-24, it set it at 0.727. These targets are set to not only ensure carbon reduction but also balance it with bringing environmental sustainability.
