KVIC Created Job Opportunities In Varanasi Through Solar Charkhas: Survey

To create job opportunities in the PM Modi’s adopted villages in Varanasi, Khadi commission distributed solar charkhas and looms and provided training to the women there.

A survey by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) said that sustainable employment has been created in Jayapur, Sewapuri and Kankariya villages of PM’s constituency.

In last one year, KVIC has created job opportunities in Varanasi, particularly in the Prime Minister’s adopted villages of his parliamentary constituency.

Apart of it, 20 new model charkha (spinning wheels) and five looms were given to Krishak Vikas Gramodyog Sansthan in village Jayapur, the survey said, adding that this step was taken to make rural populations self-reliant and stop their migration to the cities.

It said that 50 local women were given training to use these charkhas.

“These local women, after getting training, have started to earn between Rs 170 and Rs 200 per day. Similarly, 10 stitching machines were provided to the Sansthan in Jayapur in which 20 local women were trained for stitching activities,” the report said.

Through these activities, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has provided direct employment to the 70 people and generated 10 indirect employments opportunities in village Jayapur last year.

“In November 2016, KVIC established a solar charkha training centre in village Jayapur in which 20 solar charkha and five looms were provided.

“Till date, 110 women have been trained on solar charkha and being provided loan under the Prime Minister s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP),” the KVIC survey said.

Under this project, interested villagers will be given charkhas, looms and other equipment required to set up small scale industries, such as candles, incense sticks, honeybee cultivation, bakery, etc.

A solar charkha training centre was established in January in village Kankariya where 25 solar charkha and five looms provided by KVIC in which more than 100 women have been trained so far.

“These two activities have created meaningful employment opportunity at these two places. KVIC has also got repaired 10 bio-gas plant and established five new bio-gas plant in Jayapur.

“This activity of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) have contributed not only in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan but also provided clean energy to the 15 local families in village Jayapur,” it added.
