Tata Nexon EV Crosses Milestone of 4000 Units Sales

Launched in January 2020, the Tata Nexon EV has become the highest sold EV in the country with over 4,000 units sold in just 14 months from its launch.

Recently, Tata Motors announced its sales in the domestic & international market, for Q4 FY21 (quarter 4 of the financial year 2021), which stood at 191,720 vehicles, compared to 101,420 units during Q4 FY20 (quarter 4 of the financial year 2020). According to the President of Commercial Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors Ltd., Girish Wagh, “Commercial Vehicle domestic sale in Q4 FY21 at 98,966 units was 20% higher than the previous quarter, continuing its sequential growth. It was also higher by 59% over Q4 FY20.”

Girish added, “International business grew by 19% over Q3 FY21 and 25% over Q4 FY20, as the key markets started returning to normalcy. We continue to monitor and work on the supply chain to improve availability, especially of electronic components. We are also reviewing our business continuity plans in view of the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.”

Despite being unexpectedly delisted from the subsidy list of the state, granted by the Delhi government, as it had suspended the subsidy after receiving complaints from users over sub-standard range performance. In its letter to Tata Motors, the government said that a user in Delhi’s Najafgarh had reported that his Nexon EV had “never provided a range more than 200 km”.

However, within a week, the Delhi High Court had put on hold the Delhi governments’ move of delisting Tata’s Nexon EV from the subsidy list in the state. Nonetheless, Nexon EV managed to stand 1st in the race of highest sold electric cars in the country.

Speaking of which, the President of Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors Ltd., Shailesh Chandra stated, “In the EV segment, the company sold 4,219 units in FY21, a threefold increase over FY20. The company also registered its highest ever monthly and quarterly sales of 705 EVs and 1,711 EVs in March 21 and Q4 FY21. Nexon EV, the highest sold EV in the country, crossed the milestone of 4,000 units, since its launch in January 2020.”
