SECI, MP Govt To Build 200 MW Dhar Solar Project With 1000 MWh BESS By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Tue, Feb 25th, 2025 SECI, MP Govt To Build 200 MW Dhar Solar Project With 1000 MWh BESS Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a Navratna CPSU under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Madhya Pradesh government for a 200 MW solar project in Dhar. This project is part of the CPSU Scheme and a 1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Madhya Pradesh. The MoU was signed at the Global Investors Summit 2025. it was organized by the Government of Madhya Pradesh, was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The MoU was signed by Sivakumar V. Vepakomma, Director (Power Systems) SECI, and Manu Srivastava, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (NRE), in the presence of Minister of New & Renewable Energy of Madhya Pradesh Rakesh Shukla and R. P. Gupta, IAS (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, SECI. The 200 MW solar project is part of a 500 MW agreement executed in 2023 with MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) for 25 years, under which SECI will supply electricity to the state. SECI has proposed a phased capital expenditure of ₹2,500 crore for the expansion and development of renewable energy in Madhya Pradesh. Avaada, Shakti Pumps Plan to Add Solar and Wind Power Projects Several companies have announced investments in renewable energy projects in Madhya Pradesh. Regarding investment in the state, Avaada Group Chairman Vineet Mittal stated that his group plans to set up solar and wind power projects in the state with an investment of ₹50,000 crore. Sanjeev Puri of ITC Group described Madhya Pradesh as a powerhouse in the agriculture sector. Nadir Godrej of Godrej Group noted that investing in the state is a wise decision due to its ongoing development. Sudhir Agarwal of Sagar Group and Dinesh Patidar of Shakti Pumps also shared their experiences related to industrial operations in the state. The minister stated, “A few days ago, a floating solar energy project was launched in Omkareshwar. Madhya Pradesh has benefited from the boom in the energy sector. The state, where buses once struggled to operate, is now progressing rapidly in the electric vehicle sector. By January 2025, 200,000 electric vehicles have been registered in the state, demonstrating Madhya Pradesh’s attractiveness for investment in emerging industries.
