PMI Electro’s upcoming plant to produce 2500 commercial EVs annually By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Tue, May 17th, 2022 Highlights : The Pune plant will have a capacity to produce 2,500 electric vehicles annually and the commercial production will start by October 2023. According to PMI, the new plant will provide direct employment to 1500 people. PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt Ltd – maker of electric buses in India – has said that it will set up company’s new electric commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra. The new plant will be PMI’s largest manufacturing facility in India and will be based at MIDC, Chakan. PMI says that the new manufacturing facility is in compliance with green building norms of the country. It will be operational by August 2023. According to PMI, the new plant will provide direct employment to 1500 people. It will have the capacity to produce 2,500 electric vehicles annually and will start commercial production by October 2023. The official statement of the company says that PMI is already operating a manufacturing facility in Delhi-NCR. This facility is producing about 1,500 electric buses annually. The upcoming expansion in Pune will help PMI to have a total manufacturing capacity of 4,000 commercial electric vehicles every year. We wish to actively contribute to the future growth of this segment and achieve the sustainability goal set by the Government of India.” India’s electric vehicle market is poised for a splendid growth. Recently, Union Minister for Transport, Nitin Gadkari has said that in the next two years, India will have 3 crore electric vehicles on its roads. At present there are about 12 lakh EVs and by the end of this year, their numbers will rise to 40 lakhs, he informed.
