Mercedes-Benz has introduced its second ‘Made In India’ electric car for the country. Christened EQS SUV 580 4MATIC, the EV is priced at Rs 1.41 crore. Produced at the company’s Pune plant, this SUV displays advanced battery technology and features aimed at enhancing sustainability

The EQS SUV comes with a large 122-kWh battery that allows it to travel up to 809 kilometers on a single charge. This makes it suitable for long journeys without frequent recharging. The SUV also supports fast charging, which can recharge the battery in just 31 minutes, adding convenience for daily use. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz offers a 10-year warranty on the battery, to fulfil durability and long-term performance.

This new model is part of Mercedes-Benz’s push to expand their electric vehicle lineup in India. The company is investing Rs 200 crore to improve manufacturing, launch new products, and adopt digital technologies at their Pune plant. This investment is part of a larger ₹3,000 crore commitment to boost their manufacturing capabilities in India.

The EQS SUV builds on the success of the EQS 580 sedan, which was also Made in India and has been well-received in the market. With over 500 units sold in the first 18 months, it shows strong demand for high-end electric vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric vehicle offerings in India, which now include several models like the EQA SUV, EQB SUV, EQE SUV, and the luxurious Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV. The company also plans to install 10 ultra-fast chargers across India in 2024 to support the growing number of electric vehicles.

The introduction of the EQS SUV highlights Mercedes-Benz’s shows vigilance towards sustainability, offering advanced battery technology and features that make electric driving more practical and accessible. With the passage of time several Indian and foreign brands are now venturing into the four wheeler electric market in India. With a rise in the new options and increased awareness, this segment is now looking at new heights. Although in terms of sales, its sales are quite lesser than the two and three-wheeler EVs.
