SECI Issues 2.7 MW Floating Solar Tender With BESS In Lakshadweep SECI

Soon after announcing plans to develop grid-connected Floating Solar PV (FSPV) projects at the beginning of 2025, SECI has now released a tender to build such projects in Lakshadweep. These projects will be located in two locations within the union territory —Agatti and Kavaratti—and include an optional Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). SECI has set April 30, 2025, as the deadline for bid submission (soft copy) and May 2, 2025, for bid submission (hard copy).

SECI was approached by Lakshadweep Energy Development Authority (LEDA) to carry out the bidding and selection of Project developers through a competitive bidding process, to set up Projects under RESCO mode.

The Agatti project has a rated capacity of 0.95 MW, with a minimum solar AC capacity of 4.00 MW, a minimum DC capacity of 5.20 MW, and a minimum BESS capacity of 2.5 MW/16 MWh. Meanwhile, the Kavaratti project has a rated capacity of 1.75 MW, a solar PV AC capacity of 5.00 MW, a minimum DC capacity of 6.00 MW, and a BESS capacity of 2.5 MW/16 MWh. The tender also guarantees a committed annual energy supply of 6.85 MUs for Agatti and 8.37 MUs for Kavaratti.

Renewable Energy Gains Momentum in Lakshadweep

Lakswadeep is recently seeing a surge in renewable energy projects. The island state recently opened bids to build a rooftop solar project. It intends to develop 2,107 kW Hybrid Rooftop Solar Power Plants with  with 3 kWh Battery Energy Storage System for each kW system at Various Government Buildings of UT of Lakshadweep.

Floating Solar Project

Floating solar projects are gaining momentum across India, with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) actively expanding its portfolio. One notable initiative is SECI’s 10 MW Floating Solar Project (FSPV) tender. This tender is for Singareni Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Telangana.
