Hopcharge launches ‘world’s first doorstep EV charging service’ in India

Nashik Municipal Corporation Issues Tender for Installation of 20 EV Charging Stations

The success of electric vehicles in a developing country like India depends on the availability of quality infrastructure; to begin with – battery charging option. A Gurgaon-based start-up Hopcharge has launched doorstep electric vehicle charging service after a successful testing round in some parts of Gurgaon. This is being hailed as the world’s first on-demand doorstep electric vehicle charging service.

It’s basically a portable power bank that can move swiftly to cater to consumers who require the option of charging their EV batteries at their locations.

Arjun Singh, Co-Founder, and CEO at Hopcharge, said at the launch, “We have created Hopcharge as a plug-and-play fast-charging network that is available any day anytime anywhere in the city. Since it’s a charging station coming to the EV users instead of the other way around, it frees up the EV user while we charge the EV, plus it saves them the hassle of sanctioning load, installing, and maintaining it. Early response from EV owners has been overwhelming.”

Hopcharge users will be required to pay about Rs 3 to 4 per kilometre, which basically translates into Rs 20 per kWh of charging. The company says that the app is available on both Android and iOS platforms and the app supports a unique technology-powered back-end energy management system for end-to-end processes.

Hopcharge claims that its app supports all electric vehicles that are sold around the world.

The company results from the manufacturer’s efforts to eliminate the key problems associated with the EV sector: unavailability of charging facilities, erratic charging, time-consuming processes, etc. The new patented service is entirely made in India and seeks to save the productive time of EV owners and minimise expensive grid upgrades.

In another key development, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot and Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi, Vice-Chairman, Jasmin Shah have launched ‘Residential EV Charging Handbook’ to guide people on setting up EV charging stations in their residences in the national capital. The launch was conducted during an event organised by the Resident Welfare Association of Vasant Kunj.

The Residential EV Charging Handbook has been developed jointly by DDC and World Resource Institute. These charging stations in residential premises are among the 30,000 charging points that will benefit from the subsidy of Rs 6,000 that has been declared by the Delhi government.
