GUVNL Issues Tender For 500 MW/1000 MWh BESS Project

GUVNL has now released its 500/1000 MWh (Phase-VI) standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) tender for 2025. The project is located in the home state of Gujarat. This is the 23rd standalone BESS tender and the 6th from GUVNL (one is in the draft stage on LDES). GUVNL is accepting bids until February 24, 2025.

The tender aims to select a battery energy storage system (BESS) developer for setting up 1000 MWh (500 MW x 2 hrs) BESS. It further mentioned, “The project includes setting up 1000 MWh (500 MW x 2 hrs) Battery Energy Storage Systems for “On Demand” usage in Gujarat. It will be built under the build-own-operate (BOO) model. The BESS project offers a total capacity sizing of 1000 MWh and will be carried out through e-bidding followed by an e-reverse Auction process. The minimum bid size could be 100 MWh, i.e., 50 MW x 2 hours, and in multiples of 50 MW / 100 MWh.”

BESS Capacity

GUVNL’s latest tender would increase the total standalone BESS tender capacity to 12.2 GWh.Currently. 4.7 GWh capacity is in the open tendering stage. GUVNL in its tender mentioned, “The Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) would be valid for 12 years from the date of full commissioning of the project. Successful bidders will have to submit the required documents to GUVNL within 25 days from the issue of the letter of intent (LOI).”

For the project commissioning, the tender document mentioned, “The Scheduled Commissioning Date (SCD) for the commissioning of the full capacity of the project would be the date 18 months from the Effective Date of BESPA for up to 250 MW BESS capacity and 24 months for more than 250 MW BESS capacity. (e.g., if the Effective Date of the BESPA for up to 250 MW BESS is 05.07.2025, then SCD would be be 05.01.2027, or if the Effective Date of the BESPA for more than 250 MW BESS is 05.07.2025, then SCD would be 05.07.2027).”
