Govt Calls For Proposal To Develop EV Charging Sub-systems By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Tue, Oct 22nd, 2024 The government recently announced a Joint Call for Proposals to develop Electric Vehicle (EV) Sub-systems. At a ceremony held at Electronics Niketan, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), launched the initiative. At the event, while announcing the Joint Call for Proposals, S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, said, “Innovators and researchers, in collaboration with industry and academia, can boost technology development and make indigenous products available for the EV ecosystem.” Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, MHI, added, “The MeitY-MHI Joint Call for Proposals will enhance the development of indigenous technologies in the EV sector.” The Joint Call will focus on key areas of innovation, including EV chargers and charging infrastructure, machines and drives for EVs, battery and battery management systems, telematics, functional safety and security, and centers for prototyping and testing for EV sub-system validation. This initiative encourages participation from research institutions, startups, and industry players. Selected proposals will receive financial support from MeitY, while MHI will provide standardization and testing support. Interested institutions, industries, and academia may submit their proposals through the MeitY website. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and aims to strengthen India’s position as a global leader in the EV sector. The launch of this Joint Call for Proposals is expected to contribute to a sustainable and electrified future, attracting innovative solutions that support the country’s EV adoption targets. Objective and Scope: Development of Electric Vehicle (EV) Sub-systems The objective of the program is to develop sub-systems required for electric vehicles, focusing on areas such as electric drivetrains with electric motors and drive controllers, EV charging infrastructure (including options for AC and DC charging at various voltage/current levels), grid disturbances caused by EVs, and battery management systems with safety and intelligence features. The program aims to develop indigenous sub-systems, using primarily locally sourced components, to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and readiness for commercialization in collaboration with relevant industries. Projects leading to the development of devices or prototypes with Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 7 and above, and having commercialization potential, will be prioritized for financial support. The event was attended by S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY, and Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, MHI, along with prominent stakeholders from the electric vehicle industry.
