Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of public sector undertakings under the Ministry of Power announced the successful completion of the training program of more than 200 women drivers who have been equipped with professional driving skills in the passenger transport and the logistic sector. This also included specialized training on driving electric vehicles (both two and four wheelers) to make them future ready. This event showcased the remarkable achievements of women who have gained driving skills and have been empowered to enter the workforce.

Implemented by EESL in collaboration with the Azad Foundation and financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this impactful program saw 228 women from marginalized backgrounds enroll, with 208 successfully completing their training. These women have mastered both technical and employability skills, with over 150 already obtaining their permanent driving licenses and securing employment with organizations such as Sakha, BluSmart, Lithium and Big Basket.

EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor spoke on the success of the initiative. He said, “We believe that empowering women is not just a moral imperative but a catalyst for sustainable development. The success of the women commercial drivers trained under the GeF-ADB funded mobility project is a testament to the strength, resilience, and potential of women in our society. Together, we are not only transforming lives but also paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.”

During the event, inspiring stories were shared by the women drivers trained under this project, highlighting the transformative impact of the training on their lives. The atmosphere was filled with motivation and positivity, emphasizing the project’s role in uplifting and empowering women in the community.

EESL is committed to fostering initiatives that empower women and promote gender equality. We are excited to see the continued success of the women drivers as they navigate new paths in their careers. Together, we are building a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
