CATL To Power Beijing Hyundai Electric Models With CTP Technology By Manish Kumar/ Updated On Mon, Apr 29th, 2024 CATL To Power Beijing Hyundai Electric Models With CTP Technology Chinese battery manufacturing giant–Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) is all set to power Beijing Hyundai’s Electric Vehicle Projects with its advanced Cell-To-Pack (CTP) technology. The two companies recently also signed an agreement in this regard at the Auto China 2024. Per the agreement, CATL will cooperate for Beijing Hyundai’s EV projects. It will also power future Beijing Hyundai electric models with CATL batteries with its advanced technologies. “As a joint venture with a deep presence in China for 21 years, Beijing Hyundai has sold over 12 million vehicles in China, proving reliable vehicle manufacturing capabilities. Since its cooperation with CATL began in 2017, Beijing Hyundai has launched a series of popular models with cumulative sales exceeding 200,000 units,” a media statement from CATL read.’ With the new agreement, Beijing Hyundai is expected to launch 10 leading global models equipped with CATL’s latest battery technology including CTP (cell-to-pack) technology and NP. CATL will leverage its technological advantages to work with Beijing Hyundai to create high-quality automotive products and support Beijing Hyundai’s business growth in China. A shared focus on product development ensures a win-win for both companies, the battery manufacturing firm said. CATL has its energy storage business spread over several continents globally. The Shenzhen Stock Exchange-listed firm has battery manufacturing facilities in more than 13 countries. It also has subsidiaries in countries like–Munich, Germany; Paris, France; Yokohama, Japan; Detroit, USA as well as other places. CATL in its media release said it had established and strengthened its partnership with Hyundai over the past years. In October 2021, CATL and Hyundai Mobis Co., Ltd. (MOBIS) signed a technology licensing and partnership agreement, according to which CATL will introduce and disclose its CTP (cell-to-pack) technology to MOBIS as well as support MOBIS in the supply of related CTP products not only in South Korea but also worldwide. What is CTP (Cell-To-Pack)/Qilin Technology? CATL claims that its third-generation Cell-To-Pack (CTP) technology allows the battery packs to increase their volumetric utilization efficiency up to 72%. The company on June 23, 2022 had launched Qilin, its third-generation CTP technology. CATL said that these higher levels of volume utilization and energy density of up to 255 Wh/kg allow the highest integration level globally. The battery manufacturer said that this technology can deliver a range up to 1,000 kilometers. On the other hand, its NP technology allows CATL to offer self-stabilizing battery systems with gas-electric separation and active isolation. This ensures higher efficiency. CATL had in 2019 launched the world’s first module-less battery pack CTP. It allowed a utilization efficiency of 50%. Tags: Battery, CATL, electric vehicle, EV, Hyundai, technology
