The Stellantis project will feature electric vehicles’ manufacturing plants in Windsor and Brampton in Ontario. Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau has announced that the Canadian Federal Government will investment in project funding for Stellantis – one the leading automakers in Canada – to help the company modernize its assembly plants and heighten the production of electric vehicles in Canada. A press statement emanating from the office of the Prime Minister says that the federal government has planned to invest upto C$529 million into the Stellantis project. The Ontario Province, where the EV manufacturing facilities will be based in, will also project fund C$ 513 million. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced, “We’re building a world-class Canadian auto industry for generations to come, an innovative economy, and a clean, strong future for everyone. This is what a healthy environment and a healthy economy looks like.” Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, said, “Ontario has everything it needs to be North America’s auto manufacturing powerhouse once again.” Ontario is the largest province of Canada in terms of population that will support electric vehicles faster adoption. The plants will have flexible electric vehicle platforms that will help the company to increase its production of electric vehicles. Stellantis will develop a state-of-the-art Battery Pack Testing Facility at the Automotive Research and Development Centre (ARDC) in Windsor. The statement from the PM’s office reveals that work is already underway at the ARDC. The new facility of Stellantis will be complete by the end of next year. Last month, General Motors Canada said it will be manufacturing electric vehicles at Canada’s first full scale electric vehicles production plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. It also said that its Oshawa Assembly plant will be adding light-duty pickup production and a third shift of production in the coming months. The Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles Program has already helped Canadians purchase or lease over 141,000 new electric vehicles since 2019.
