Battery Swap Service At Bangalore Metro Rail Stations

Japan-based carmaker Honda Motor’s subsidiary for battery swap services, Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited (HEID), and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a partnership between the governments of India and Karnataka, announced the launch of Honda e-swap services recently. HEID will run these services at the BMRCL Metro stations.

The battery exchange service in India will commence with electric auto rickshaws thanks to the establishment of HEID in November 2021. With the help of HEID’s battery swap service, rickshaw drivers will be able to visit the nearby battery stations—Honda Mobile Power Pack e—and exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones. Utilizing this service will lower drivers’ initial investment costs for EVs and ease their worries about running out of battery and range.

HEID and BMRCL agreed to collaborate on e-mobility initiatives by signing an agreement of intent. They’ve renewed their joint commitment to one another by enlarging their network of exchange stations. HEID has already placed Honda e-Swap stations at five BMRCL stations in Bengaluru (KR Market, National College, Banashankari, Trinity, and Baiyappanahalli stations), which have already started running initially for electric auto rickshaws compatible with Honda Mobile Power Pack. This cooperation would hasten the implementation of e-mobility in last and last-mile connectivity, thereby contributing to a cleaner and greener future.

By establishing more than 70 stations in Bengaluru by July 2023, HEID hopes to establish the largest battery-swapping station network. In addition, the service would be gradually extended to other large cities based on the success in Bengaluru.

Recently, there was an inauguration ceremony where both parties celebrated the success of their partnership and reaffirmed their shared commitment to pursuing the electrification of small mobile devices to achieve carbon neutrality and a greener future for Bengaluru.

Earlier, Honda revealed its plans to establish a battery-sharing service for e-rickshaws in India. Honda said that it will achieve the task by the end of 2022. The maker has also launched its electric two-wheelers in India.
