Ather Energy, an electric scooter manufacturer based in Bengaluru, has teamed up with Tata Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) to provide specialised training courses in the field of electric vehicles (EVs). The collaboration seeks to train labor to fulfill the expanding needs of the Indian EV market. Through the cooperation, complete courses in EV technology and battery specialization will be offered, combining the industrial experience of Ather Energy with the commitment to talent development of Tata IIS.

Rising consumer adoption and technology developments are driving the fast expansion of the electric vehicle (EV) market in India. There is still a sizable talent gap in spite of this expansion. A recent study found that there is a deficiency of personnel with specialized training in battery and electric vehicle technology.

In order to close this gap, the collaboration provides in-depth training that incorporates both technical expertise and real-world experience.

“While the industry is addressing this challenge effectively, there is a growing need for a skilled workforce,” noted Swapnil Jain, CTO and co-founder of Ather Energy.

“We believe such collaborations are essential to cultivate a robust pool of skilled workforce, ensuring that India becomes a global hub for all things EV,” Jain stated. Programmes that give trainees technical knowledge of battery systems, electric motors, power electronics, charging infrastructure, and vehicle safety will be developed by Ather Energy.

Sabyasachi Das, CEO of Tata IIS, added, ‘Tata IIS is committed to equipping young minds with cutting-edge skills in emerging industries. India’s electric vehicle (EV) industry, particularly the two-wheeler segment, is growing at an exponential rate, expanding the need for a highly skilled workforce. We are delighted to partner with Ather Energy, one of India’s leading manufacturers of electric two-wheelers, to launch specialised training programmes for EV technicians and battery specialists.’

Together with critical soft skills like problem-solving, cooperation, and communication, trainees will also obtain hands-on expertise in EV maintenance, repair, and diagnostics. Ather Energy will supply the cars, motors, batteries, and other necessary components to set up EV labs at Tata IIS locations around the nation in order to assist these initiatives.
