Technical Lead – Power Electronics

Electronics Engineer for Airtechnology Business Unit, part of Aerospace & Defense division, AMETEK India. Involved in full product development lifecycle including product development contracts, bids & proposals, R&D activities, and legacy production support.

The prospective power electronics engineer will be a member of Airtechnology Engineering team.  The Engineer will be responsible for providing support with end-to-end hardware development including detailed analysis, circuit simulation, hardware development and product deployment.  The Engineer will conduct engineering studies, analysis, working closely with the wider engineering team executing the designs from India.  The Engineer will also support in generating the necessary design, analysis and test reports.  The Engineer will provide technical recommendations on circuit designs and alterations to achieve performance requirements, within cost and schedule constraints.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support NPD – Concept, planning, design, and implementation phases
• Support Design and development of motor controllers / Drives / power converters / power conditioning / front end filter design.
• Responsible for the approval of electronics design, validation, and verification documentation
• Develop designs using schematic capture and modelling tools and produce validation and verification documentation.
• Produce EMC qualification test procedures from test requirements
• Review PCB layouts produced by others including verifying the appropriate application of design guidelines
• Support production yield problems and in-service failure investigations for electronic elements of products
• Identify replacement electronic components arising from component obsolescence of in-production products
• Support design and development of electronics related test equipment for testing high integrity electronics
• Lead the preparation of electronic elements of technical proposals, costings and associated documentation to support business development opportunities.
• Prototype and testing support for locally developed and fabricated assemblies.
• Collaborate with vendors to produce custom electrical assemblies as required.
• Participate and present technical updates to the wider engineering team on a weekly basis

Education and Experience:-

• Bachelors in Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Masters Preferred
• 8 – 10 years’ progressively responsible experience in an engineering environment

Mandatory Skills:-

• Hands on Experience in Analog, Digital and Power Circuit Design, perform detailed circuit designs calculations with detailed electrical simulations.
• Experience in designing BLDC motor drives, Motor controller/ inverter etc.
• Hands on Experience in Microprocessor / Microcontroller based Circuit Designs.
• Hands on experience in Schematics generation using ALTIUM or similar softwares.
• Motor drive, control, and power conditioning.  High voltage DC experience will be a plus.
• Knowledge of position sensor based & sensor-less based controller operation for BLDC/PMSM/SRM Motors.
• Knowledge of EMI/EMC regulatory compliance requirements for Aerospace standards and any front-end filter design experience will be a plus.
• Experience in performing various design analysis to verify design margins and derating factors.
• Knowledge of Thermal Analysis and managing the power dissipation in the design
• Hands on experience in Components Selection, BOM generation with considerations given to part availability and provide alternate parts.
• Excellent verbal & written communications – Ability to clearly present complex information
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, etc.

Preferred Skills:-

• Design experience in packaging of electromechanical, motors, fans and power systems used in Aerospace application by considering EMI/EMC and Thermal requirements.
• Hands-on experience in I2C programming for motor control and integrate product features.
• Knowledge of aerospace standards like RTCA/DO 160 & MIL-461 Standards
• Circuit analysis such TINA, SPICE, etc.
• PCB layout support, 3D preferred.
• Software development Languages, such as C, C++
• Developing software for embedded systems a plus
