Sr. Electrical Engineer- Motor Drives

The Sr. Electrical Engineer is a member of AMETEK A&D’s Engineering team.  The Sr. Engineer is responsible for providing technical guidance and support with detailed analysis and circuit simulation support.  This includes detailed design research on active projects concurrently.  The Sr. Engineer will be responsible for managing a HW engineer and an electrical PCB designer in fully documenting electromechanical assemblies.  The Sr. Engineer will conduct engineering studies, analysis, providing detailed status reports on a weekly basis.  These reports will be presented to the electrical teams in US & UK.  The Sr. Engineer will provide technical recommendations on circuit designs and alterations to achieve performance requirements, within cost and scheduling constraints.

Supervisory Responsibilities:-

The Sr. Engineering Analyst manages their local electrical & electronics designers’ schedules and objectives.  This responsibility also includes defining their daily priorities, and assessing their level of performance while providing continuous guidance and support

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:-

• NPD – Concept, planning, design, and implementation phases
• Build Prototype modules, perform functional and pre-qualification testing.
• Design and development of motor controllers / Drives / power converters / power conditioning / front end filter design
• Specify electrical design solutions for overall system control architecture
• Specify design solutions that enhance products performance ensuring they meet specified requirements
• Provided detailed circuit designs with detailed electrical simulations
• Assist PCB CAD Engineer with PCB Layout guidelines and PCB layer Stacking
• Prototype and testing support for locally developed and fabricated assemblies.
• Support verification, validation & qualification testing.  Including managing local testing activities.
• Conduct and participate in Design reviews – TIM, PDR, CDR, TRR.
• Collaborate with vendors to produce custom electrical assemblies as required
• Participate and present technical updates to the wider engineering team on a weekly basis
• Provide technical guidance on planning and executing project assignments

Mandatory Skills:-

• Hands on NPD Experience
• Hands on Experience in Analog, Digital and Power Circuit Design, perform detailed circuit designs calculations with detailed electrical simulations
• Hands on Experience in Microprocessor / Microcontroller based Circuit Designs
• Hands on experience in Schematics generation using Mentor Graphics PADS, ALTIUM or similar Softwares
• Experienced in motor drive, control, and power conditioning.  High voltage DC experience a plus.
• Hands on experience in designing to meet EMI/EMC regulatory compliance.
• Hands on experience performing circuit analysis with TINA, SPICE or equivalent.
• Utilize analysis to meet performance while reducing EMI signature
• Knowledge of Thermal Analysis and managing the power dissipation in the design
• Hands on experience in Components Selection, BOM generation with considerations given to part availability and provide alternate parts
• Leadership skills to influence the actions and opinions of others regarding technical solutions
• Excellent verbal & written communications – Ability to clearly present complex information
• Effective at persuading others through concise logically sound presentations
• A strategic thinker with timely tactical execution abilities
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, etc.

Preferred Skills:-

• Design experience in packaging of electromechanical, motors, fans and power systems used in Aerospace application by considering EMI/EMC and Thermal requirements.
• Knowledge of aerospace standards like RTCA/DO 160 & MIL-461 Standards
• Circuit analysis such TINA, SPICE, etc.
• PCB layout support, 3D preferred
• Basic SolidWorks 2D and 3D capabilities
• Software development Languages, such as ‘C’, ‘C++’
• Developing software for embedded systems a plus
