Sr. Design Engineer NPD-VTBA

Roles and Responsibilities:-

Customer Focus:-

• Understand the scope of work for New Product Development.
• Selection/computation of the main machine components and materials in cooperation with the project team.
• Design Subsystems/Commodities of the generator and light towers.
• Work independently and support the project leader for on-time in full project deliverables.
• Look for innovative techniques other than standard practices been followed.
• Generate innovative ideas through self-study of new technologies in the market.
• Be responsible for designing components/assemblies of portable energy products, with all specifications in compliance with functionality, quality, and manufacturability.
• Should do a pre-study of the assigned activity and come up with a proposal followed by Pros and cons.
• Do a feasibility study, design multiple concepts, present concepts to the project leader & approach for detailed design on approval of the concept.
• Delivery of drawings, parts lists and technical instructions that describe the design, based on predefined specifications.
• Conducting design reviews of 3D models and 2D drawings.
• Has quick understanding & analytical ability to identify potential problems.
• Take initiative and interact with the team.
• Participate in technical discussions within the team with a focus on the quality and manufacturability of the products.
• Participate in daily and weekly project team meetings to present status reports and clarify queries.

People Focus:-

• Provide technical guidance to the team.
• Provide inputs to the Team Leader on technical training.
• Share learnings from projects with the Team.
• Solving technical queries of subordinates and providing as a Design Guidance.

Operational Excellence:-

• Allocate work to the team members based on the criticality/ complexity of the task.
• Take the lead in planning and estimating the work in line with the delivery requirements. Develop status reports and monitor and control the progress of a project.
• Ensure adherence to SOPs.
• Review design and check for adherence to safety and quality standards as per defined international and Atlas Copco standards. Ensure alignment with customer-specified standards and guidelines.
• Keeping records of Input received, checked drawings & markups received.
• Ability to keep a record of all communication related to the project according to std. procedure defined.
• Ensure adherence to the organization’s processes and guidelines.

Product Focus:-

• Find ways to promote the use of reusable components, product platforms, Subassemblies, and Modular Designs.
• Prepare ISO Documentation. Seek feedback from customers from time to time and drive improvements in the internal processes.
• Maintain the Knowledge & skill management Portals, Databases, etc. to document the knowledge about Products, Processes, People, and tools.
• Design of Industrial Products includes –
  • Design of base frames and mounting frames
  • Design of supports, brackets, and flexible hoses.
  • Design for piping routing as per project requirement
  • Design for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Design considering accessibility for service and ease of assembly.
  • Expert in 3D solid modelling and weldments.
  • Expert in part drawings and assembly drawings.
  • Expert in Bill of materials preparation for assembly & weldments
  • Should be aware of the ERP system to release the Project BOM & related activities.

Technology Focus:-

• Identify innovative solutions and opportunities to improve, and optimize product performance, cost, life, reliability, and Sustainability.
• Drive, and contribute towards efficiency improvement projects, optimizing & automating processes to achieve an efficient way of working.

Experience/Educational Requirements:-

• University degree in Engineering/Technology (Mechanical) with 3-5 years of experience.
• Fluent in English

Knowledge:-       

• Should have a strong Engineering technical, and analytical background.
• Strong Knowledge of Fabrication, sheet metal, and Rotating Machinery competence.
• Should understand the engineering activities (NPD and continuous improvement projects) within an organization.
• Able to read & understand P&ID, GA, Layouts etc.
• Working knowledge of CATIA, Inventor, MS office
• Good knowledge and experience of any PLM/ ERP system
• Should have a good knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing processes.
• Should have knowledge of heavy fabrication, canopy design, Welding and Flexible hose design, surface finish and treatments.
• Knowledge of Vacuum pumps, Separators and abatement systems is an added advantage.
