Solar Development Engineer – Asia Shell Mumbai, Maharashtra Job Posted : Nov 9th, 2021 Job Description In this role, you will work with business development leads in key countries to ensure projects deliver maximum value. You will also manage key interfaces with global engineering and global EPC teams to confirm that minimum standards are met, and projects are delivered on-time and on-budget. You are expected to assess, secure and de-risk Shell’s Projects and Project options. This includes: Manage consultants (technical due diligence, feasibility). Review and prepare preliminary basis of design, layout, and single line diagram (Renewable plant and interconnection). Calculate energy yield assessment (EYA). Conduct techno-economic analysis (TEA). Provide financial model inputs (grid cost, development costs, Capital Costs, Operating Costs). Support permitting activities. Interface with partner/developer on engineering topics. Interface with distribution/transmission operator on engineering. Lead provision of Geotech, hydrology, and grid studies. Support business development team to prepare technical docs to enable solar development efforts. Furthermore, you are responsible in driving and supporting projects towards being Ready to Build, which includes: Help design projects compliant with applicable internal and external codes and standards. Help determine optimum choice of equipment (Modules, inverter, structure) to meet and comply with project goals. Put together high-level schedule and cost roadmap for utility scale; Commercial &Industrial type of projects. Prepare technical documents to pull the necessary permits and grid interconnection agreements. Manage external engineering consultants and OEs to support for early stage and late-stage projects. Manage multiple projects in Asia region. Support troubleshooting and resolution of applicable project engineering, construction and performance issues. Qualifications And Experiences:- We’re keen to hear from individuals with a minimum of bachelor’s degree preferably in Engineering or any related degree. Beyond that, we’d want to hear from individuals who have the following: At least 10 years’ total work experience with at least 5 years’ hands-on experience in renewable power sector, specifically solar photovoltaics. Experience in techno-economic optimization of solar projects, especially for tenders or auctions. Experience in managing technical consultants, owners’ engineers and independent engineers in the solar industry. Experience in EPC and O&M negotiations, as well as in construction of solar projects. Familiarity with grid network and system operators in Asian countries. Familiarity of local permitting and grid connection requirements (especially in India, and preferably in other markets such as Japan, Philippines, Vietnam). Good understanding of project economics, value chain and project development. Knowledge of the solar market in Asia, including competitive landscape and market rules. Strong network with manufacturers of panels, inverters, and mounting structures in order to understand the commercial implications to projects (e.g., price, yield). Commercial acumen, to help increase project returns and reduce engineering-related costs. Experience in working with Wind and Hybrid projects is a plus. Flexible and open to discuss alternatives and evaluate projects under local country conditions. Willingness to travel at least 50% of the time and being able work efficiently and productively in remote locations. Culturally sensitive and ability to build strong relationships with Shell, partners, and stakeholders. Strong communication skills, being able to present their idea within technical and non-technical audience. Practical. Focus on solving problems and not just asking more questions. Ability to speak multiple languages is a plus, especially Japanese. Location:- Mumbai, Maharashtra.
