Signalling Principal Engineer

As a key Member of the Wabtec Control Systems Team, the purpose of the Signalling Principal Engineer is to provide high level technical support and supervision in relation to design, checking and validating signalling systems in accordance with statutory, regulatory, company and client standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:-

• Promote and ensure the appropriate standards of health, safety and environmental management are adhered to;
• Prepare schedules for preliminary and detailed designs of signalling systems that comply with statutory and regulatory requirements;
• Monitor progress and initiate remedial action where required to ensure signalling projects are completed on time and within budget;
• Supervise preparation of documentation for standards and specifications in relation to signalling systems;
• Provide high level technical support for all signalling projects as required;
• Provide mentorship to budding signalling engineers as and when required by projects
• Act as independent checker verifying principles in signalling designs and application data prepared by others;
• Participate in factory acceptance testing and/or site testing of signalling systems and equipment;
• Participate in the commissioning of signalling systems;
• Report on signalling projects as required;
• Support Management with the technical aspects of the Tender and design hours estimates

Working Relationships:-

• The Signalling Principal Engineer works close with Engineering Staff, the PMO and Project Management;
• Maintains and fosters relationships with current and potential stakeholders, in particular, clients, service providers, contractors, subcontractors and employees.

Essential:-

• Degree qualified in Engineering or Equivalent;
• Substantial experience working as a Signalling Principal Engineer;
• Expert user of Microsoft Office in particular Word and Excel;

Preferred:-

• Rail Provider certificate/statement of competencies;
• IRSE Accreditation;
• ARO Accreditation (ARTC, V/Line, JH CRN, MTM).

Performance Indicators:-

• Health, Safety and Environment (TBC);
• Projects executed within scheduled timeframes;
• Projects executed within allocated budgets generating profit;
• Identify new projects and additional works for existing projects/clients;
• Employee turnover not to exceed 20%;
• Maintain and foster relationships with all stakeholders.

• Provided novel design solutions outside the standards and templates as per project requirements.
