Senior Mechanical/ Thermal Engineer

The role involves Carrying out the Flow and Thermal Analysis to assist design and development activities associated with a wide range of new and existing products like VCS, Fans and Blowers, HVAC Systems and Auxiliary Power Units. The role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team including Project Leaders, Mechanical design engineers to support product development. The work will be as directed by the Engineering Manager – India but will also involve significant interaction with the wider engineering team in the UK and US.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:-

• Fan Design, Understanding of Turbomachinery design principles and system level calculations.
• Good Understanding of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer principles
• Understanding of design principles of HVAC Systems, Vapour Compression systems, component selection and performance calculations. Hands on design experience of similar systems for Aero applications will be a plus.
• Strong technical understanding of Design, Materials, component selections, Hand calculations to validate Analysis results.
• Knowledge of Design and selection of Thermal devices like Cold Plates, Heat Sinks and cooling methods for electromechanical assemblies
• Experience in building test fixtures and hands on testing and validation experience will be a plus.
• To be able to interpret a customer requirement specification and from this carry out calculations and simulations to drive design improvements and product qualification
• Work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams to support the New Product Introduction process.
• Attend and participate in design reviews to ensure product is manufacturable and meets customer specification.
• Responsible for all Flow and Thermal analysis related facets of the project

Education and Experience:-

• B-Tech/M-Tech in Mechanical Engineering with Specialisation in Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer related subjects (Masters preferred)
• 10+ years’ progressively responsible experience in an engineering environment

Preferred Skills:-

• Knowledge of aerospace standards like RTCA/DO 160 & MIL-810 Standards
• Advanced SolidWorks capabilities, including configurable 3D assemblie

Skills:-

• Hands on NPD Experience
• Hands on Experience in Flow and Thermal analysis using tools like ANSYS, STAR-CD etc. Tool to be used at AMETEK will be Solidworks simulation, ANSYS CFD and ANSYS Turbo tools
• Hands on Experience in system level calculations. Thorough understanding of Thermodynamic cycles and equivalent system calculations, component selection and system level performance predictions
• Creating Test plan for validations, executing verification tests through internal / external testing
• Strong Technical documentation skills
• RCA and related techniques
• Excellent verbal & written communications – Ability to clearly present complex information
• Effective at persuading others through concise logically sound presentations
• A strategic thinker with timely tactical execution abilities
• Strong computer skills including:
• Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, etc.
