Job Description

  • Steel will play a pivotal role in the global energy transition and will be an integral part of solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles, dams, etc. In parallel the industry will also create a number of opportunities for newer technologies and energy products especially hydrogen as it decarbonizes.
  • Industry stakeholders across the steel and raw materials value chain will need to understand the key drivers and trends impacting the industry in both the near term and long term. Miners, steelmakers, traders, logistics providers, investment bank, and financial institutions will need to be well versed with research and analytics for more informed decision making.
  • The Research Analyst –Steel & Raw Materials will apply solid analytical capabilities and knowledge to enhance Wood Mackenzie’s analysis and services to customers.
  • You will be responsible for developing a good understanding of our clients’ interests and provide frequent, rigorous, and sharply written analysis as part of our publication schedules. You will also lead innovative and differentiated trends, insights, and thought leadership articles and publications. The analyst will communicate regularly with clients as well as internal stakeholders, sharing our views and engaging in mutually beneficial communication.

Responsibilities:-

  • Author regular publications providing our near term and long-term outlook for steel and emerging metallics such as DRI and scrap for key regions
  • Analyze decarbonization trends shaping the steel and raw materials industry
  • Author differentiated market analysis and thought leadership pieces on topical themes to keep us ahead of the curve
  • Develop and maintain contacts with industry stakeholders to gather intelligence that will enrich the quality and timeliness of our research solutions
  • Actively support client engagement and communication. You would routinely involve in dialogues with clients at differing levels of seniority on market trends.
  • Work closely with members across the commodities, energy, and natural resources business globally to help determine our view of the pace and shape of the energy transition

Qualification and Experience:-

  • You are degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (Economics, Business, Mining, Geology, Engineering etc.) and have experience in the metals and mining sector. Your previous experience includes knowledge of the steel value chain including generating forecasts for demand, supply, price, and trade. You may also have experience with mines, traders, power and renewable end-use or other users. You understand steel’s current role in the energy space and how it evolves over the energy transition.
  • You also understand the big picture, which enables you to analyse and form clear, coherent conclusions from a variety of data and information. You find it easy to communicate complex or technical information and delivering messages that are easily understood.
  • You have a high understanding of the Microsoft Office suite of products. You may have advanced skills utilising these products or programming languages.
  • You have excellent numerical analytics including problem solving and technical skills in excel.
  • You have systemic work-load management and planning skills.
  • You like to work as part of a team, which will involve multiple locations and time zones
  • Have a good network in the industry with contacts across the value chain.
  • A strong commitment to commercial excellence and ability to deliver the high-quality standards.

Expectations

  • We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future.
  • While this is expected to be a full-time role, part-time or flexible working arrangements will be considered.
  • Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones.
