R&D Principle Engineer Electrical

You as R&D Principle Engineer-Electrical will be part of Hitachi Energy business-based Chennai. As R&D Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for Electrical design of our fast & automated coupling devices for MW charging infrastructure. You will be executing various R&D engineering activities related to wayside coupling infrastructure (moving part) and its (fixe) counterpart mounted on EVs.

• Develop and assess electrical concepts for high-power Automatic Coupling devices or Energy Transfer Systems
• Certification for outdoor and hard environmental conditions
• Responsible for electrical design and integration to full productization.
• Responsible for product certification.
• Responsible for safety electrical design, thermal design, ingress protection, electrical insulation…
• Responsible for electrical interfaces toward infra and EV.
• Responsible for electrical certifications (insulation, heat-run, EMC…).
• Responsible for execution of pilot project with on-site commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Definition of preventive & predictive maintenance.
• Lead for electrical design, including architecture, safety, hardware selection, electrical schematic (SLD/MLD’s),
• control and communications, HVAC, auxiliaries…
• Design-to-cost & design-to-value. Optimize designs by applying DfM / DfA / Risk analyse / DFMEA methodologies.
• Participate to control definition and software specification.
• Participate to make vs buy analysis. Benchmark and cost evaluation.
• Take responsibility for BoM management (double-source) and cost modelling.
• Preparation / Review / Approval of Technical Specification, Technical Data Sheets, Vendor Drawings / Data sheets for internal and external suppliers
• Collaborate closely with suppliers to find cost optimal solutions.
• Supplier’s evaluation. Audit. Participate to Quality Control.
• Makeup, small or full-scale prototypes until final Proof of Concept tested on EV and on-site.
• Lead electrical testing campaign. Define tests plan with clear acceptance criteria. Test reports.
• Lab definition Lab implementation.

Qualification And Experience:-

• Master degree in in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years’ experience in Electrical Engineering, Automation or similar.
• Opp Charge or MCS experience would be definitively an advantage
• Mining truck or EV chargers experience would be an advantage
• Experience in Energy Storage Systems (battery) would be an advantage
• Mandatory experience in DC applications, DC protections, DC apparatus, ideally with several kA and above 1kV
• Experience in robotic, servo-drive, positioning systems would be an advantage
• Experience with PM motor, variable speed drive, speed and torque control would be an advantage
• Experience in heat-run tests, EMC, Insulation coordination would be an advantage
• Experience with IEC and/or ANSI standard related to EV, battery and safety
• Network simulation. Short-circuit calculation. Cables selection. Cooling (HVAC). Auxiliaries. UPS.
• Schematics, SLD, MLD’s, control architecture (PLC, IED’s, fieldbus).
• Good understanding in mechanic, pneumatic, hydraulic, valve control units
• System calculation, knowledge of electrical risks,
• Experience in on-site work would be an advantage
