Lead Engineer – Tower Product Development

Tower Module in Vestas Power Solutions is developing and maintaining the complete Vestas tower program. The tasks range from structural engineering over requirement management, design risk assessment, highly specialized FEM calculations, test planning and project execution and creation of certification documentation.
Tower Technical Management is a cross functional department in the Tower Module. The department is accountable for final approval of complete module requirements, technical quality, risks, and solutions across the value chain and across the tower sub-modules. The team will liaise with the product function on module requirement analysis, needed performance steps and improve feasibility studies. Focus is on securing cross functional alignment across tower sub-modules, interfacing parts of the wind turbine, and across the full value chain from procurement, manufacturing to transport, installation and service.
The tower module team is located in three hubs at Aarhus in Denmark, Porto in Portugal and in Chennai, India. The Technical Management team consists of 6 highly skilled specialists and works across the three hubs with people based in two different geographical locations.

Responsibilities:-

• Your primary responsibility will be to direct requirements and technical risk management in the module as well as perform quality assurance in product and technology development projects
• Structure and improve the requirements definition process and development within the tower module
• Handle interface specification within the tower module and with neighbouring components
• Ensure quality FMEA execution by supervising and facilitating a group of internal teams as well as coordinating general process improvements
• Participate in forensic engineering analysis to determine technical and systemic root causes of reported field issues
• Support Closed Loop Quality by guiding the incorporation of lessons from the field in the product development process
• Collaborate closely with Tower product and technology development projects on the status of requirement maturity and technical risk level throughout the entire development cycle
• Ensure correct use of relevant quality tools, methods and guidelines as well as adherence to quality processes to increase the quality/robustness level of new towers

Qualifications And Experience:-

• A bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural and civil engineering or Similar
• 8+ years’ experience working within Wind Energy / Heavy Engineering or OEM industries e.g., Renewable, Automotive, Aviation, Aerospace, etc
• Solid experience working in system engineering product development projects
• Expert with product development process (eg: system engineering)
• Hands on experience in FMEA execution and facilitation
• Experience as technical lead on R&D projects and new concept development will be an added advantage
• Experience with APIS IQ-FMEA and\or Visure will be an added advantage
• Good communication skills in English, both orally and written
