Job Description

Are you our next composite Vacuum Infusion and curing process design engineer?
The role involves activities contributing to the design and development of the vacuum infusion and curing process for large composite parts for wind turbine blades. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing processes and methods. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities related to new product introductions as well as supporting continuous improvement of existing products in production.

Roles and Responsibilities:-

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include process development using infusion simulation tools, lab testing and support to materials and consumables qualifications
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of the infusion and curing technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work, in collaboration with support from the team. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills. Provides informal guidance to new team members.

Required Qualifications:-

  • M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Chemical Engineering (or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with Composites design and manufacture – knowledgable of basics in composites modelling, testing, orthotropic materials, flow modelling, Darcy’s law and more
  • Hands-on experience with Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding (VARTM) process, Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) or Vacuum Infusion process – with epoxy or polyester resin systems
  • Polymer science knowledge of industrial resin systems for composites design & manufacture
  • Hand’s-on experience working in a production environment, side-by-side with operators and technicians
  • Process modeling experience, prefarably in PolyWorx, PAM-RTM or similar. General knowledge of FEM is an advantage
  • +5 years industry experience

Desired Characteristics:-

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, and execute tasks
  • Proficient in working with CAD software tools, e.g. NX, AutoCAD, CATIA or other
  • Capable of programming scripts in Python or C++
  • Experience with LEAN / 6Sigma and Design for 6Sigma
  • Experience working with DFMEA / PFMEA principles. Preferably also experienced using xFMEA tool
  • Experience working with PDM systems such as Siemens TeamCenter or similar
  • Capable of identifying risks within allocated projects and independently leading activities to de-risk and drive development
  • Capable of working with tasks with high ambiguity and uncertainties and defining needed activities to solve these and ensure progress
  • Experience with development working procedures, writing working instructions and making technical drawings
  • Good understanding of production tooling needed for composites moulding and fabrication
  • Capable of working with multi-cultural teams located remotely.
  • As an engineer, you have a strong analytical mind-set, capable of evaluating data and making decisions based on facts and empirical data.
