Engineer – Engineering Tools

The Grid Automation design engineering team is responsible for new product development for Grid Automation product lines. This role is an integral part of core Substation Automation team to execute NPI programs and will work on System Configuration & Management tools.

Roles and Responsibilities:-

• Working as part of the GE Grid Automation Global R&D Design teams the individual in this role will be accountable for:
• Translate stories and use cases into functional applications
• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Java code
• Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems
• Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation
• Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle
• Prepare and produce releases of software components
• Resolving field issues and quality issues through analysis and design changes within the available time lines
• Developing conceptual designs and detailed designs in accordance with established engineering processes, submit design code for reviews, update the designs as required as an output of the reviews

Qualifications And Experience:-

• Bachelors / Masters in STEM
• 4+ years of hands-on experience in design, development and validation of software using Java technologies like Core Java, Swing, Spring Boot etc, and test tools like JUnit.
• Basic understanding of JVM, its limitations, weaknesses, and workarounds
• Experience in XML including in knowledge of XML schemas
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming
• Familiar with various design and architectural patterns
• Knowledge of Test-Driven Development and Unit Testing is highly appreciated
• Knowledge of CI/CD infrastructure
• Familiarity with build tools such as Ant, Maven
• Working Knowledge of JIRA / Confluence
• Basic understanding of code versioning tools.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development process
• Capacity to listen, understand and synthesise end-user requirements in a multi-cultural environment and global teams operating in different time zones

Desired Characteristics:-

• Familiarity with Java Object Store PSE/PSE Pro will be appreciated
• Knowledge in power transmission and electrical circuits
• Experience with industrial applications will be an asset
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
