Job Description

  • EDU to take charge of a multi-disciplinary team to design traction and auxiliary energy storage systems for railway applications including introduction of advanced chemistry cell technologies. He manages the resources required to execute design engineering activities of energy storage solutions domain: functional description, system engineering, system architecture, power design, mechanical design, thermal design, battery management, embedded software, schematics & apparatus, harness & wiring, safety & reliability, simulation and prototyping, processes, methods, type testing and validation, routine testing, product integration with vehicle and warranty performance. He/she supports consistent development of competencies required for this domain, following the right methodologies and tools. He/she ensures the application of the standard processes in this domain.
  • On a day-to-day basis, domain leader is part of a multidisciplinary working group from tender to project closing stage and maintains a privileged relationship with train design, engineering teams, suppliers (external and/or internal), procurement, manufacturing, and services. The domain Leader is also responsible for the test specifications and is involved in the first validation/ type tests.
  • We are looking for a candidate who is curious, ready to take on technical challenges, and comfortable leading a multidisciplinary team of engineers and experts in battery design.

Accountability and Responsibilities:-

The responsibilities of the EDU – Electical and Validation are:

  • Accountable to manage domain level resource plans, forecasts future resource requirements, budgets, and roadmaps.
  • Accountable to own and manage risks, issues and dependencies at domain level.
  • Accountable to provide open and effective communication channels leading to greater knowledge transfer within the domain and across the Business domains.
  • Accountable and owns KPIs for battery design domain to maximizes the ability to deliver best results.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining the roadmap.
  • Responsible to develop/ plan, manage or execute projects and ensure successful completion.
  • Responsible for research and development in the battery systems and technology space of advance cell chemistry and battery management.
  • Responsible to managing the Alstom internal business needs of engineering, industrialization, and services Metiers.
  • Responsible for driving collaboration and continuous improvement mind-set across the team. Set clear team goals, delegate tasks and set deadlines, provide support to team in project execution.
  • Responsible for coaching, mentoring and guiding team with day-to-day activities. Develop and maintain competences, coaching the team and growing engineering expertise.
  • Responsible for handling escalated internal business issue and resolving any conflicts at domain level.
  • Responsible for proper reporting and communication management mechanism for success of the engagement. Prepare and host management reviews.
  • Responsible to manage adequacy between estimated workload and capacity, report status and issues to department head. Manage Shared Engineering Centre (SEC) operations across the projects. Is the SPOC for the global sites to ensure collaborations, governance and operations with ESS Metiers.
  • Collect REX from execution and innovation opportunities at domain level. Deploy Process, Methods and Tools in the team, providing feedback for Process reviews.
  • Agree and implement with the department head and the peer domain leaders the department guidelines (team profile and skills, growth plans, discipline evolutions in terms of technology, competitiveness).
  • Promote Alstom values to the team. Continuously motivate, encourage, evaluate and recognize, train and develop resources, in cooperation with HR, as per approved performance evaluation process and targets.
  • Estimate/ validate quotations for tenders and projects. Identify necessary investment (CAPEX).
  • Follow market innovations in his/her domain and derive product R&D topics, if useful. Make proposals of R&D topics leading to improvements of performance of Engineering in term of Quality or Productivity.
  • Alongside the role as EDU, takes responsibility of individual contributor on the technical and technology part of battery design.

Knowledge & Experience:-

  • ME/MTech degree in electrical/ electronic / automotive or chemistry applied to batteries with minimum 10 years’ experience in energy storage system domain.
  • Knowledge in ESS design and development space (Industry – Railways is preferred; Automotive or Shipbuilding or Aerospace is acceptable), like: –
    • Sub-system: requirement gathering, specification, architecture, safety, reliability & maintainability.
    • BMS Hardware & Software: Architecture, functional specifications, and adaptation.
    • Schematics & Apparatus: electrical design, mechanical design, notions of manufacturing.
    • Verification & test: hardware-software integration, test specification,
  • A good understanding of train systems and Lithium-Ion chemistry. A keen interest in advanced chemistry energy storage solutions is a must.
  • Experience with project management (minimum 5 years) with ability to apply principles, tools and
  • techniques to develop/plan, manage or execute projects to successful completion. Training/ certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with domain modelling tools and product life cycle management tools.
  • Good communication skills and fluency in English (spoken and written).
