Asst. Department Manager-Electrical (WTR)

Burns & McDonnell’s Water Global Practice in Mumbai India is seeking to hire an Assistant Department Manager for the Electrical Department. The Water Global Practice supports internationally recognized projects in the oil, gas and petrochemical industry, as well as the fast-growing business lanes in industrial food processing, and traditional municipal water and wastewater. The Assistant Department Manager will be responsible for the managerial direction, leadership and mentorship of the electrical engineers and designers. Additional specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by the Global Practice Manager and Senior Management.

• Manage department staff, staff workload, and collaborate with Human Resources on recruiting, retention, training, and staff development efforts.
• Provide continuous mentoring and constructive feedback throughout the year and conduct mid-year as well as annual performance reviews for the respective team.
• Schedule and lead department meetings on a regular interval.
• Set and implement department goals, objectives, requirements, standards, and guidelines.
• Interpret and implement policies, procedures, processes, and strategic goals of the organization to staff.
• Assign, monitor, and maintain work for quality, billability, and efficient utilization of staff.
• Prepare manhours estimates for work scope. Hold team accountable for design budgets, metrics, and schedules.
• Advise, direct, and/or redirect team members to the appropriate technical resources for the execution of projects as well as the quality reviews performed.
• Develop, guide, and coordinate design workflows, processes, and procedures.
• Develop, improve, and communicate project execution and design tools.
• Identify training needs for engineers and support/develop training programs for the department. Collaborate with other departments on shared training.
• Build relationships and coordinate with Section and Department Managers as well as Project Managers in other global practices and other office locations.
• Manage projects as required and guide team members to the appropriate project management resources.
• Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

Qualification And Experience:-

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering.
• Minimum 10 years professional experience.
• Previous experience with engineering design and/or project management activities associated with traditional water and wastewater scope activities.
• Experience on US Water projects.
• Strong preference for the following:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees and management.
• Experience giving and receiving performance feedback for those they work with.
• Familiarity with tools/technology such as Pivot Tables, Data Models, Office 365 apps, and other efficiency/data tracking tools.
• Advanced understanding and proficient experience with design calculations for cable sizes and lighting using Visual or Dialux, and verifying transformer/DG sizing.
• Strong understanding and experienced executing projects using NEC, ANSI/NEMA, NFPA, IEEE and other international codes and standards.
• Experience preparing electrical deliverables, such as one line diagrams, three line diagrams, schematics, interconnection drawings, sub-station equipment layouts, cable sizing, cable schedules, panel schedules, hazardous area classifications, cable tray, grounding and lighting layouts for construction or installation of new or existing modifications of electrical system facilities.
